KANPUR: An English proficiency program was organised by the English Proficiency Team of IIT Kanpur on Friday in which teachers from the Central School, IIT-K and Campus School, IIT-K, the faculty members of the institute and students took part.
Bhaskar Dasgupta, professor in mechanical engineering, who conducted the programme, said that the English proficiency team is working on a plan in the direction of strengthening the education of the language in schools and in the society. The essential knowledge of English Language and training has been organized in three modules which will be executed through three courses.
Dasgupta said that a language is not learnt through textbook alone. “Through a long and sustained effort of the learners and teachers over months, it is possible to achieve command over the language, provided the programme is conceived with care and followed in the right earnest,” Dasgupta said.
He added that though others can also join these courses, the main target are school teachers, because through them the benefit of the programme can reach the society and the next generation in the most appropriate manner.
