Communication is the bridge between all people. The very goal of Communication is for the speaker is to convey his message to the receiver by writing or speaking. The message can be the form of a speech, notice, order, request or many other ways.

Communication in Business plays a very important role and is the essential tool. Effective Communication is the key to a successful business. With modern technology communication can encompass many forms and be transmitted many ways.


Studying communications teaches students how to use tools of communication like writing effective speeches and crafting messages, to persuasion and public speaking. By incorporating marketing, foreign languages, philosophy, and even advanced computer skills, the communication major will definitely find employment in related fields. A wide variety of employment opportunities ranging from public relations to translators await graduates and interns alike. This list of some career choices for communication majors may be of some help.

1) Public Relation Specialist

Also known as Communication Specialist, is involved in the branding and the image of the employer company. The major roles of a PR is interacting with public officials, journalists, and reporters. The PRS handles conflict mediation, writes speeches, and holds press conferences to manage the public’s perception of the company. These types of professionals must be focused and detailed oriented, and possess superb communication skills.

2)  Photojournalist

Photojournalists are usually assigned by the editor to take pictures of particular places, events, and newsworthy people. Articles generally accompany the photos taken to enhance the story. These stories are then published in magazines or newspapers, or broadcast on TV. Photojournalists are expected to have some writing and reporting skills to help the journalist properly identify proper names and locations. The job can take the photojournalist all around the world to cover every story imaginable

3) Advertising Manager

Working in advertising agencies, advertising managers are responsible for leading, directing, and executing campaigns. Possessing excellent leadership and communication skills is a must, as advertising managers overlook a variety of departments. Some professionals are employed to sell ad space and time via TV networks, so working long hours and being under constant deadlines is to be expected. Knowledge of marketing techniques, visual arts, and consumer behavior, along with a high proficiency in computer skills is desirable.

4)Broadcast News Analyst

More commonly known as news anchors, broadcast news analysts are responsible for preparing and delivering the news over television or radio. Some broadcasts are aired with little prep time, so the news analyst must be able to quickly adapt to the fast-paced environment. Introducing news reels and leading from one story to the next is but a portion of job. The workload is usually heavy and work hours are very hectic.

5)Technical Writer

The technical writer creates and edits technical documents, which may include product manuals, user guides, and design specifications. Geared more towards end users, usually in the business and information technology fields, more technical language is used. The adding of images and video to the technical writer’s documents is not unheard of. Writing for businesses in the healthcare, manufacturing, and engineering industries is showing promising growth with annual incomes.

6) Advertising Sales Agent

Dependent on revenue acquired through advertising, the advertising sales agent is responsible for the solicitation and selling of whatever company she works for. Often called account executives, agents build clientele by soliciting via phone and helping customers interested in purchasing time or space. Attempting to convince a potential advertiser to place an ad requires the agent to formulate a pitch by first doing extensive research on the product.

7) Translators and Interpreters

Converting one language into another language takes knowledge of cultural nuances and the subtleties of the language. Typically, translators convert written word into other languages, whereas interpreters convert French to English, for example. The job of translators and interpreters requires the professional to understand the concepts and customs of those languages’ origins. Important skills required in these fields are mental focus, effective communication, and the ability to convey the feelings behind the original texts and words. The most important part of the job is to get the most accurate translation or interpretation possible.


 Besides these all, An individual being good at speaking and writing and good with English can seek employment in other fields also such as human resource specialist or a journalist. Communication becomes the important factor.
