PhD Admission Notice 2014 for IIT Ropar

Indian Institute of Technology‚ IIT‚ Ropar announces admissions to PhD programme in various disciplines for first semester of 2014 session.

The institute imparts education for subjects –

  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science and technology
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Biomedical Engineering

Eligibility Criteria:

1) Computer Science and Technology

  • M.Tech / M.E / M.S or equivalent qualification in computer science and engineering or equivalent degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) (55% marks for SC/ST)
  • However‚ exceptional candidates having B.Tech/B.E qualification with valid GATE score can apply for direct admission to PhD programme
  • A candidate with a Bachelor&aposs degree from any IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from requirement of GATE qualification
  • Area of Research will be Multi-disciplinary research in Computer systems and theory

2) Electrical Engineering

  • First Class (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) or 60% marks in M.Tech/M.E/M.S in Electrical engineering or equivalent degree
  • Areas of Research: Power generation with renewable sources; Power System Stability‚ Power System Optimisation‚ Synchrophasor Technology and its application to smart grids‚ Plugged-in-Hybrid Electric Vehicles‚ Dielectrics and High Voltage Engineering‚ Nano technology and Nano electronics
  • Research Area will be School of Mechanical‚ Materials and Energy Engineering

3) Chemistry

  • First class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in master or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Bio-
  • Chemistry/Materials Science and Technology/ Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biotechnology
  • Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year
  • a) Valid GATE score
  • b) UGC/CSIR-NET qualification
  • c) DST-INSPIRE fellowship
  • Research Area will be Organic Chemistry‚ Polymeric biomaterials for drug delivery‚ Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry‚ Supramolecular Synthesis‚ Materials Chemistry‚ Catalysis‚ Ionic liquids‚ Heterogenous catalysis‚ Nanoporous material synthesis‚ Electrocatalysis‚ Electrochemistry‚ Fuel Cells‚ Electronic structure calculations‚ and Quantum Dymamics

4) Mathematics

  • First class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master’s Degree in Mathematics‚ Statistics‚ Computer Science‚ Physical Sciences‚ Engineering Sciences or equivalent Master’s Degree
  • Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year
  • Valid GATE score
  • UGC/CSIR NET qualified or NBHM or equivalent qualification
  •  DST-INSPIRE Fellowship
  • Research Area will be Algebra and Differential Equations

5) Physics

  • First class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in M.Sc in Physics/B.Tech in Engineering
  • Physics/M.Tech in relevant areas
  • Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year
  • a) Valid GATE score
  • b) UGC/CSIR NET qualification
  • c) DST-INSPIRE Fellowship
  •  Area of Research: Ion beam nano patterning‚ Physics of Graphene and nano-devices‚ Thin-film/nano-structures for renewable energy‚ Quantum computation and information‚ Nonlinear Light Scattering and Biophotonics‚ Nano-scale optics and meta-materials‚ Quantum Optics‚ Neutrino Physics‚ Nuclear reaction dynamics‚ structure and astrophysics

6) Humanities and Social Sciences

  • 55% (or 6 grade point out of 10) in M.A./M.Sc./M.Com/M.Tech/ MBA with UGC-NET
  • However‚ exceptional candidates having B.Tech/B.E qualification with valid GATE score can apply for direct admission to PhD programme
  • A candidate with a Bachelor&aposs degree from any IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from requirement of GATE qualification to apply
  • The candidates must be interested in working in the research areas/subjects mentioned below
  • Candidates interested in interdisciplinary research‚ in the relevant areas of research mentioned below can also apply.
  • Area of Research will differ for English Literature, Linguistics, Economics, Cultural Science, Development Studies.
