Calcutta University will introduce a year-long postgraduate diploma course in Counselling. The course will be jointly conducted by Calcutta University and Legal Aid Services West Bengal (LASWEB) – an organization of former jurists, senior lawyers and social workers that counsels people to resolve disputes. The University has already signed an MoU with LASWEB and the course will be conducted jointly
Date: The course will commence from April 5.
Senior advocate LASWEB executive chairman Gitanath Ganguly is in charge of this course.
30 candidates have already enrolled for the course.
The students will be job ready for any type of counselling- the students will be eligible to provide marriage, mental health, pre- and post-marital counseling as a professional. They may get absorbed by the social welfare department or private organizations.
This year, the course is being conducted at Sri Shikshayatan but next year, it may be conducted in some other institute informed Calcutta University VC Suranjan Das.
Career as a marriage counselor is to try dissolving marital ties, provide treatment to couples before marriage, during divorce, after divorce and can even help couples deal with issues resulting from remarriage.
