Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) has decided to start PG diploma in urban planning and development from this July. The course will start from this admission session. The distance-learning programme is going to be offered, initially in English, through Ignou’s regional centres.
“We provide the study material and conduct periodic counselling sessions. As of now the programme is only available in English, but later, we plan to provide it in Hindi as well,” says Nehal M Farooquee, director, School of Extension and Development Studies, Ignou.

It is also intended to help expand the capacity of urban development professionals and elected representatives of urban local bodies in various theoretical and practical aspects of urban planning and development and to develop professional knowledge and skills in formulation , implementation, monitoring and evaluation of urban development projects and programmes,” says Farooquee.
