Legal giants pick legal eagles
The pre-placements were good for NLSIU, but the placements were excellent. The year looks good for students of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), if the first day of placements is any indication.
Day Zero is the first day of the main placement drive when companies visit the campus. Five top law firms made 30 offers at NLISU on Wednesday, of which 17 were accepted. While five students accepted offers from Amarchand and Mangaldas, three were picked by Luthera and Luthera. Khaithan and Co and Trilegal selected four graduates each and AZB absorbed one student. The highest pay package offered was Rs 17 lakh per annum; the average deal came to around Rs 1 lakh per month.
In a first, NLSIU is expected to see lawyers visiting the campus with offers for students through the Recruitment Coordination Committee. So far, lawyers used to appoint students through individual applications. Now, RCC will try to formalize the process as is the case for corporates. Three alumni have already approached RCC for this.
Last year, the number of students placed on the first day was 12. The pre-placement drive (when companies place students after internships) saw 16 graduates getting the green signal.
Of the 72 students in the batch, 50 had applied for campus recruitment. While some are eyeing civil services, a few want to pursue further studies. Around 12 will opt for litigation. With the Day Zero having kicked off, the placement season has only begun.
