As per news, Anna University, Chennai, has released a rank list of non-autonomous colleges according to their academic performance and a list of colleges with similar sounding names on its official website.
The ranking is based on the pass percentage of three semesters, beginning November-December 2012 to till date.
The ranking was released following a High Court judgment that directed the university to publish the academic performance of the colleges and the pass percentages of 506 non-autonomous colleges for the December-January 2012, April-May 2013 and December-January 2013 semesters.
Only three institutions in and around Chennai figure in the top 10 list –
- Sri Sairam Engineering College,
- Sri Sai Ram Institute of Technology
- Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering.
Apart from this, two other colleges also find place in the top 20, Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College and R.M.D. Engineering College.
The list is available at http://online.annauniv.edu/tnea/
Colleges and experts, however, feel that the ranking is not enough for students to choose their colleges during the counselling.
