Reforms in Andhra Pradesh University


Andhra Pradesh government to make amends in its AP Government Act of 1991

In opposition to the tainted vice-chancellors of the University, the decision is being taken. This is why, the AP Human Resource Development Minister G.S.Rao, is looking to make certain changes and bring reforms in the Andhra Pradesh University Act 1991.

With regards to this, the HRD Minister feels necessary to take action and punish the vice-chancellors. He said that he will not let them scot free and ensure that they get caught soon. Major changes will be made in the amendments in order to punish vice-chancellors facing charges of corruption.

Starting with the following,-

  • Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore,
  • Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur,
  • Rayalaseema University, Kurnool and
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada,

G.S. Rao said that once the term of these vice chancellors ends this year, a search committee will be formed.They will work and are answerable to recommend the names for the post of vice chancellors for the universities in Andhra Pradesh. Prior to that, a meeting will be held in this regard with the Principal Secretary of Education Neelam Sahani and Chairman of AP State Council for Higher Education L. Venugopal Reddy.

Andhra and Telangana-

Rao pointed on the fact that it was mandatory for Andhra and Telangana to function as a single entity for entrance test for various courses as per the 10th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. There is a tough competition coming up.As the number of private universities is constantly on the rise he advised the government universities to be ready to face tough competition. G.S. Rao will hold a meeting with G. Jagadish Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana and few other officials for co-ordination with the TRS government.
