100 crore e-learning venture

Ronnie Screwval is an Ex UTV owner and a serial entrepreneur tweets-

“40% students drop out before the 8th grade. Digitizing higher education is a great way to bridge the gap between infrastructure and learning.”

As per the news, Ronnie is launching UEducation, an online education portal focusing on higher education. The new venture involves an outlay of Rs. 100 crore in the first phase. This investment will primarily go into content, interactivity, platform, technology, adaptive learning, assessments, marketing and building a national footprint.

UEducation is Ronnie’s second independent venture; who set up Unilazer Sports new unit focusing on sports management.

Why an e-learning venture-

Over the past few years, online portals for learning and test preparation are on a sprung. These ventures are also getting venture capital funds.
Screwvala said to a National Daily that India has the largest college going age cohort in the world, yet only one out five of them enroll into higher education, resulting in one of the lowest higher education enrollment ratios, even among most developing nations. If we have to meet our GDP growth targets, we need to at least double the participation rate immediately; otherwise we will miss out on our demographic dividend.

Mayank Kumar, an IIT-Delhi and Indian school of Business, Hyderabad Alumni is also onboard of UEducation as a Co-founder and Managing Director. Mayank has worked for various major players such as Senior Principal at the Parthenon Group, Tata Strategic Management Group and currently; Vice-President at Bertelsmann India Investments, a corporate VC fund focusing on Education and Digital sector.

UEducation also intends to partnership and collaborate with global universities and build other affiliations besides offering specialized courses.
Ronnie’s idea of Digitising Higher Education can be great for India and its education system. Hope online medium can bridge the gap in the current Indian Education system between infrastructure and learning.

Interviews start after the release of the results of IIM-A written test

We all are aware of the admission process to the management program of IIMs which includes written test and Personal Interview (PI). The admission process to the full time two year management program for the batch 2015-17 is going on at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)- Ahmedabad.

For which, the institute is done with the results of the Academic Writing Test (AWT) and now the list has been prepared on the basis of the Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) valid scores. Short-listing has also been done on the basis of Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores in needful cases. The list was out on the date December 27th 2014. The other factor is the Application Rating (AR) score, which is derived on the basis of the candidates’ academic performance in the 10th standard, 12th standard as well as Bachelors’ Degree examinations. In order to shortlist the performers across diverse academic backgrounds, from each of the five categories of academic disciplines, the top 50 candidates or top 1% of the number of applicants to IIM Ahmedabad, whichever is lesser, have been shortlisted for AWT & PI on the basis of their CAT percentiles.

To access this list , view the official website of common admission test. Overall 1,249 candidates (CAT: 1239 and GMAT: 10) have been shortlisted for the AWT-PI process at IIM Ahmedabad for 2015-17 admissions.

The students will have interview for getting the admission in PGP 2015-17. IIM Ahmedabad will conduct its AWT and PIs in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and New Delhi/NCR. Candidates short-listed for AWT and PI will be intimated by registered post. The CAT takers applying to IIM Ahmedabad’s PG programs can also check if they have been short-listed for AWT & PI by visiting the official website.

Final Selection: Selection at this stage will strictly be based on the ranks of the candidates computed separately for each category (General/SC/ST/OBC NCL, Transgender/DA) on the basis of their Composite Scores (CS). The numbers selected in different categories will be in proportions mandated by law.

The CS of a candidate who appears in AWT & PI will be computed using the following rule:

First, CAT, AWT and PI scores of a candidate are normalized by dividing it with the corresponding maximum possible score that could be obtained. The CS of a candidate is then obtained as:

CS = 0.50 (Normalized PI Score) + 0.10 (Normalized AWT Score) + 0.40 (Normalized CAT Total Score).
